Anni Albers. Anni Albers, geborene Annelise Fleischmann (* 12.Juni 1899 in Berlin; † 9. Mai 1994 in Orange, Connecticut) war eine deutsch-amerikanische Textilkünstlerin, Weberin und Grafikerin. Anni Albers was a German-born American textile artist and printmaker credited with blurring the lines between traditional craft and art. Besides surface qualities, such as rough and smooth, dull and shiny, hard and soft, textiles also includes colour, and, as the dominating element, texture, which is the result of the construction of weaves. Together Anni and Josef Albers were 20th-century innovators. Sue Herdman asks Nicholas Fox Weber, author of a new book on the pair, about their work, partnership and the myths that surrounded them.

I In 1922, Anni Albers joined the Bauhaus school of Weimar, an avant-garde institution where she would also meet her husband, the painter Josef Albers. A hard-working student and gifted weaver, she went on to assist professor Gunta Stölzl and served as acting director of the weaving workshop several times between 1929 and 1931. Anni Albers: Notebook 1972–1980 is a facsimile of the only known notebook compiled by the artist.This previously unpublished document follows Albers's progression as a draftsman and includes intricate drawings related to her large body of graphic work, as well as studies for the late knot drawings. 2016-09-27 · Yet when Anni Albers enrolled as a student there in 1922, the Bauhaus still restricted female artists to taking classes only in textiles. Albers was a skilled painter when she applied. Nonetheless, undaunted, she embraced the textile curriculum and found it both challenging and enlightening.
